Hawks Fall to Nationally Ranked Findlay

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy University men's basketball team lost 91-86 to nationally ranked Findlay Saturday afternoon (Nov. 10).  The Hawks were unable to overcome a nine point deficit at halftime.  Five Hawks scored in double figures in the loss.  

Play by Play

1st Half

The Hawks and Oilers were locked in a tight battle from the opening tip off.  QU grabbed an early 9-5 lead after a jumper by Jah-Kobe Womack.  

Findlay answered back with a six point run to take 11-9 lead over the Hawks with 15:05 remaining in the first half.  

The Hawks used the inside game to take a 20-18 lead on a Marsalis Johnson layup with 11:24 to play in the half.  

Both teams traded baskets throughout the first half.  With 2:46 to play in the half, the score read 33-33.  The Hawks went cold in the final few minutes of the first half and the Oilers finished on a 9-0 run to take a 42-33  lead into the half.  

2nd Half

To begin the second half, the Oilers opened up a 19 point lead with 14:05 to play in the game.  

Quincy refused to go quietly and let the nation's 23rd ranked team cruise to a win.  

Trailing 60-42 with 12:51 to play, the Hawks began to make their comeback.  

Aziz Fadika made a pair of free throws and De'Andre Alexander scored off a Oilers turnover to cut the lead to 60-46.  

The Hawks made four consecutive free throws to cut the Oiler lead to 10 with 10:55 to play in the game.  

Down 62-50, Jah-Kobe Womack scored the Hawks next four points to bring the score to 62-54.  

Findlay pushed the lead back to 10 points with 1:47 to play.  Marcus Hinton slammed home a dunk with 1:04 remaining to make the score 84-76.  

With 39 seconds to play, the Oilers held a nine point lead over the Hawks.  Womack scored on another fast break layup to make the score 88-81.  

Findlay missed a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give the ball back to the Hawks.  

Sharpshooter Ryan Briscoe drilled a three-pointer to bring the Oilers lead to 88-84.  

The Hawks had the lead down to three with five seconds to play in the game.  Findlay made a pair of free throws to ice the game and give Findlay a 91-86 victory.
