Full 40 Minutes Gives Hawks 90-80 Win

QUINCY. Ill. - Five Hawks scored in double-figures as the Quincy University men's basketball team defeated NAIA opponent, Harris-Stowe 90-80 Saturday (Nov. 24).  The Hawks fought for a full 40 minutes to defeat the previously unbeaten Hornets.  

Play by Play

First Half

After the Hawks surrendered a three-pointer on the opening possession, junior guard Jah-Kobe Womack tied the game with a three of his own. 

With the game tied at 9 with 15:41 to play in first half, the Hawks went on a 12-0 run to take a 21-9 lead over the Hornets.  The Hawks were a perfect 5-5 from the field during the run.  

Following a Harris-Stowe basket to end the scoreless drought, Demetrius Houston converted an basket and a foul shot to put QU up 24-11 with 12:18 to play in the half.   

The Hawks offense continued to light up the scoreboard, holding a 34-23 lead with 8:43 to play in the half.  

Harris-Stowe would not go quietly as the Hornets cut the Hawks lead to two points with just under six minutes remaining in the half.  The Hornets  knocked down seven three-pointers in the half to keep the score close.  

QU pushed the lead back to eight points with 2:43 to play in the first half.  Demetrius Houston and Jah-Kobe Womack paced the Hawks with 11 points each in the first half.  

The Hawks took a seven point lead into the half.  

Second Half

QU and Harris-Stowe traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of the second half.  The Hornets cut the Hawks lead to three during this stretch 

The Hawks pushed the lead back to five after Ryan Briscoe knocked down a free throw with 8:48 to play in the game.  

A basket and a foul shot by Deandre Clark brought the Hawks lead to 71-69 with eight minutes remaining.  

The Hawks pushed the lead back to 76-72 and looked to extend the lead even further.  

QU drilled back to back three-pointers by Marcus Hinton and Ryan Briscoe to lengthen its lead to 10 points with 5:46 to play.  

The ten point lead was enough to solidify the Hawks third win of the season.  QU defeated Harris-Stowe 90-80 as the Hawks shot just under 50% from the field.  The Hawks also knocked down 18-24 foul shots in the win.
