QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team outscored Missouri Western 51-31 in the second half to earn its second win of the season.
Play by Play
1st Half
Tanner Stuckman got things going for the Hawks. Stuckman put the first five points on the board giving QU an early 5-0 lead.
Missouri Western converted on an and-one opportunity to make it a two-point game at 7-5.
The Griffons were called four separate times for traveling in the first eight minutes. The Hawks failed to capitalize as they held just an 11-9 lead at the 12-minute mark.
Missouri Western took their first lead of the game shortly after. A made 3-point attempt brought the score to 12-11 MWSU.
Both teams exchanged a pair of buckets before
Aziz Fadika gave the Hawks the lead. Fadika went up to the basket strong for a lay-up and was fouled for an and-one opportunity. He missed the free throw but Quincy went ahead 19-18.
With six minutes left in the half, the Griffons went back ahead 26-21 after a made 3-pointer. A minute later, MWSU sunk another shot from deep to push their lead to 29-21.
Going into the break, the Hawks trailed 32-25.
2nd Half
Ryan Briscoe was the first to strike after the break. He slashed through the lane for a lay-up. On the following offensive possession, QU knocked in a 3-pointer to cut the Griffon's lead to 34-30.
Demetrius Houston swished a corner three to bring Quincy within one point.
Marcus Hinton followed a MWSU basket with an and-one on the following possession. Hinton made the free throw to tie the score at 36-36.
Houston got to the basket on the next two possessions to fuel a 4-0 run that put Quincy ahead 40-36.
After a made basket by
Jah-Kobe Womack, Quincy's lead extended to 51-41 with 12 minutes to play.
Marsalis Johnson got a big bucket after an offensive rebound. Johnson corralled his miss and went back up to make the score 56-48 Quincy.
Missouri Western answered back with an and-one to make it a four point game with nine minutes left.
The Griffons made it a two-point game after a slash to the basket made the score 61-59.
Tyus Millhollin knocked in a contested three to tie the game at 62-62.
On the other end,
Austin Downing netted a shot to give QU back the lead.
After a timeout,
Aziz Fadika got position down low and converted a lay-up attempt to give QU a 68-62 lead with three minutes left to play.
With a minute and a half left,
Ryan Briscoe knocked in two free throws to push QU's lead to 71-63.
The Hawks converted on free throws late to hold on for the victory 76-63.
