Hawks Drop Straight Sets to Lewis

QUINCY, Il. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team was unable to overcome early deficits in a 3-0 loss to Lewis University. The Hawks fell 21-25, 15-25, 15-25. 

Play by Play
Set 1
The Hawks began the game with high energy. Quincy forced two errors on Lewis to start the set in a 3-3 tie. 

Lewis gained the lead 12-9, but the Hawks responded with three-in-a-row to tie the set 12-12. 

After a pair of kills by Lewis, Emma Lynch collected a kill to make the score 15-14. QU tied the set once again after an attack error on the Flyers.

Quincy went ahead by scoring two more points which made the score 17-15. 

The Flyers would not go away as they scored the next two points to once again force a tie. 

A key moment in the set came with Lewis leading 20-19. Both teams sustained a long volley before the Hawks sent their attack out of bounds. Instead of going down by two, the referee called a point for QU because the attack was tipped. 

The Flyers answered back. Lewis scored the final three points of the first set and won 25-21 to take a 1-0 lead. 

Set 2
Set two was similar to the first set at the start. Both teams found themselves in a 5-5 tie after the first ten points. 

The Flyers gained control after a three-point run gave them a 15-11 lead. LU stayed in front on their way to a 25-15 set two victory.

Set 3
Lewis started off the third set how they finished the second. The Flyers jumped ahead with four straight points making Quincy have to play comeback.

QU brought the set within one after a kill by Taylor McMonagle. The score was 9-8 LU.

The Flyers were able to extend their lead to seven after five straight points made the score 16-9. Quincy called timeout.  

Lewis remained in control for the remainder of the set and won 25-15 to seal the straight set win.

The Hawks final game will be tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Pepsi Arena. It will be senior day as QU takes on Indianapolis.
