KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Quincy University women's volleyball split a pair of games on Saturday (October 6). The Hawks fell to Rockhurst 3-0 in the first game then defeated Kentucky State in three sets.
Play by Play
Game 1
To begin the first set, Rockhurst jumped ahead 5-1. Quincy gained the lead after a four point run which made the score 8-7 QU. The four point run included kills by
Taylor McMonagle and
Sarah Brown.
QU's lead would not last long. Rockhurst scored the next five of six points to move ahead 12-9.
Quincy was unable to regain the lead as Rockhurst went on to win set one 25-15.
The second set was commanded by Rockhurst. Quincy was only able to get six points in set two as QU went down two sets to none.
In the third set, Rockhurst continued to keep the foot on the gas. RU held an early 6-1 lead to open the set.
Quincy was able to cut the RU lead to 9-6 after a service error, but Rockhurst would pull away.
Rockhurst went on to win the set 25-13 and the game 3-0.
Game 2
The Hawks began the first set by going ahead 3-1.
Marissa Gonzalez recorded an early service ace to put QU in the lead.
Kentucky State trailed 11-9 before going on a four point run to move ahead 13-11.
Quincy was able to bring the game back to a tie 16-16. The Hawks pulled away by scoring seven in a row to make the score 23-16. QU took a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Quincy moved ahead 7-2 after a service ace by
Stephanie Mizeur.
The Hawks remained in the lead until KSU battled back late to tie the game at 23-23.
QU went on to score the next two points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the game.
The final set, both teams were tied 6-6 after an attack error by Quincy. The Hawks scored the next four to move in front 10-6.
Quincy remained in the lead for the remainder of the set to get the 3-0 win.
