Hawks End Skid With Thrilling Overtime Win

QUINCY, Il. – The Quincy University men's soccer team defeated McKendree 3-2 after a 96th minute goal from freshman Kingsford Adjei. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Hawks.

The Bearcats were quick to strike first. Jett Gay of McKendree scored his second goal of the season in the 17th minute to put his team ahead 1-0. 

Quincy looked to equalize following the early goal by McKendree. Justin Armfield saw a scoring opportunity in the 21st minute, but his shot was saved by the keeper. 

QU only managed two shots for the remainder of the first half. The Hawks went into the break trailing 1-0. 

In the second half, rain began to fall, but the action picked up. Both teams had shots towards the net in the first five minutes but came up empty handed. 

In the 56th minute, senior Kyle Fraser ripped a shot but it was once again saved by the McKendree keeper. 

The Hawks outshot the Bearcats in the game 19-7. Ten of the 19 shots were on goal.

In the 63rd minute, Aubrey Reis was in the right place at the right time. Kingsford Adjei sent a shot that was deflected by the keeper. Reis collected the deflection and scored to even the score 1-1. 

It took the Bearcats under three minutes to go back ahead. In the 65th minute, Eddie Davis scored from 10 yards out to put McKendree ahead 2-1. 

Quincy needed just thirty seconds to tie. Kyle Fraser scored his third goal of the season off a free kick from nearly 20 yards out to make the score 2-2. 

Both teams were unable to net another goal before the end of regulation.

In the first minute of overtime, Kyle Fraser sent a corner kick into the box. Kingsford Ajei placed a header towards the goal but it was saved. 

Adjei would not be denied. With more than three minutes left in the first overtime, Adjei got behind the Bearcat defense. The striker from Accra, Ghana shot the ball over the sliding keeper to give the Hawks a 3-2 win. It was Adjei's fourth goal of the season.
