Hawks Season Ends In GLVC Tournament Loss

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer season came to an end in the GLVC Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 28).  The Hawks fell to the Knights 2-1.

Play by Play

The Hawks and the Knights were locked in a defensive struggle through much of the first half.

Strong winds played a factor as both teams struggled to get the ball out of the midfield.

Bellarmine nearly took the lead early in the game on a through ball sent into the Hawks 18-yard box.  Emilee Autry came out of goal to clear the ball from danger and keep the score knotted at 0-0.

QU had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the 18th minute as the Hawks earned a corner kick.  The Knights held firm and cleared the ball away.

The first shot from either team came in the 33rd minute as Bellarmine's Polly Marino sent a shot towards goal that went well wide of the mark.

Just before the half ended the Knights made a run towards the Hawks goal and were awarded a corner kick after QU knocked the ball out of bounds.  With 49 seconds to play Natalie Teo headed the ball into the back of the net off the corner kick to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Bellarmine took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Out of the half, Bellarmine struck early.  Several crisp passes allowed Teo a clean look from eight yards out.  Teo took advantage by placing her shot into the back corner of the net and gave the Knights a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute.

The Hawks were forced to change formations with their season on the line and upped the offensive intensity.  Despite several good shots, the Hawks couldn't find the first goal of the game.

QU's persistence paid off in the 84th minute as Mo Rooney scored her first goal of the season off a Hawks corner kick to cut the Bellarmine lead to 2-1.

The Knights lead was too much to overcome and the Hawks could not score the equalizer and fell 2-1.
