Hawks Fall On Road To Truman State Bulldogs

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy University football team fell to the Truman State Bulldogs 41-7 Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27).  The Hawks were outscored 35-0 in the first half.  

Play by Play

1st Quarter

The Hawks were forced to punt on the opening possession of the game, giving the high powered Bulldog offense the ball at their own 40-yard line. 

The running game was the focus of opening drive for the Bulldogs and scored on a six play, 60-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead over the Hawks with 11:18 remaining in the quarter.  

QU's offense stalled on its next drive and punted the ball back to Truman State.  

Dual-threat quarterback Jaden Barr exploded for a 59-yard rushing touchdown on the third play of the drive to give the Bulldogs a 14-0.  

2nd Quarter

The Bulldogs took advantage of a blocked punt in the second quarter and scored their third touchdown of the game.  Jaden Barr found Jake Ellis for a 36-yard score with 14:17 to play in the half.  

Truman State's offense put up two more touchdowns in the first half and led the Hawks 35-0 after the first 30 minutes of game time.  

3rd Quarter

Truman State began the second half with the ball, looking to extend its lead.  Good field possession and a costly penalty led to another Bulldog score.  Truman led the Hawks 38-0 with 12:12 to play in the quarter after a Bulldog field goal.  

QU got on the scoreboard thanks to a Sherond Boyd 85-yard touchdown run on the following possession to cut the Bulldogs lead to 38-7.  

4th Quarter

The Hawks were unable to trim into the lead as Truman State added another field goal to bring the final score to 41-7.  

The Hawks were stopped on fourth and goal on the first possession of the quarter. QU was stopped again on its second possession on fourth down deep in Bulldog territory.  

Cody Leonard collected his 9th straight game with 10 or more tackles, finishing with 15 total tackles on the game.  Leonard currently has 128 total tackles on the season which is a new school record for total tackles in a single season.
