QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to William Jewell three sets to one on Tuesday evening. The Hawks were outscored 25-19, 20-25, 18-25, 18-25.
Play by Play
Set 1
Neither team gained leverage over the other to start the first set. The score was tied 12-12 after a block by
Baylie Stephens.
Quincy forced a William Jewell timeout after a four-point run made the score 16-13 QU.
The Hawks increased their lead to 21-16 after an attack error on the Cardinals. A service error by WJC sealed the first set 25-19, and Quincy went ahead 1-0.
Set 2
Both teams were tied 6-6 to start the second set. The back-and-forth affair continued as the score remained tied 12-12. QU went ahead after a kill from
Emma Lynch.
The Cardinals forced a timeout by QU after they went ahead 19-16. William Jewell scored three in a row to gain the advantage.
William Jewell stayed in front and won set two 25-20.
Set 3
The third set started evenly once again. Both teams battled for the lead but ended up even at 8-8.
The Hawks gained the lead 9-8 after winning a long volley on a blocking error.
The Cardinals scored three straight gaining a 11-9 lead. Quincy had an answer and tied the game after back-to-back points.
William Jewell forced a timeout by Quincy after moving back ahead 14-11 after another three-point run.
After the timeout, the Cardinals continued to apply pressure. William Jewell expanded their lead to 23-16 before taking the third set 25-18.
Set 4
The Cardinals took it to the Hawks early in the fourth set. William Jewell jumped out to a 10-5 lead forcing a timeout by Quincy.
Out of the timeout, the Cardinals kept the momentum and increased their lead to 16-8.
The Hawks were unable to recover as they fell 25-18.
