Adam Whybrow turned away eight shots on goal to help give his team a chance.
Play by Play
The Hawks were quick to strike. In the 13th minute, senior
Kyle Fraser sent a beautiful ball from deep in the left corner. Fraser's pass rolled into the box right to the feet of redshirt junior
Justin Armfield. Armfield put his shot past the keeper top give the Hawks the 1-0 lead.
Quincy's offense quieted for the remainder of the first half. The Hawks were only to put up a blocked shot by
Aubrey Reis.
The Hawks back line kept Maryville at bay despite the Saints putting three shots on goal.
Adam Whybrow made all three saves to allow QU to hold the 1-0 lead going into the half.
In the second half, Maryville tried to break down the Quincy defense. The Saints put up ten total shots with six on goal. Whybrow saved five of the six.
Maryville got on the board in the 80th minute on a goal from JD Sohn.
The 1-1 tie held until the end of regulation.
In the first overtime,
Anthony Christante and
Kingsford Adjei recorded the only two shots for the Hawks. Both were unable to cash in. Quincy's defense allowed three shots in the period with one on goal. Whybrow made the stop, and the game went to a double overtime.
In the second overtime period, Quincy once again created two good scoring opportunities.
Kingsford Adjei had a shot turned away by the Saints keeper in the 101st minute of play.
In the 103rd minute,
Kyle Fraser launched a shot from the outer left corner of the goalie box. What appeared at first to be a cross, bent back towards the net forcing MU's keeper to jump up and make the save.
The teams ended the match in a 1-1 draw.
