QUINCY, Ill. - Despite 29 points by senior Anika Webster, the Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the University of Indianapolis 75-69 Thursday (Jan.4) evening.
The Hawks got the scoring started off quickly, taking a 7-4 lead after a three-pointer by Jessie Rabas.
Rabas hit two more three-pointers to put the Hawks up 13-6 with 3:58 remaining in the first quarter.
QU stretched the lead to nine after a jumper by Webster.
The Hawks held a 19-14 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of action.
With the Hawks trailing by one at the six-minute mark in the second quarter, Michaela Gronewold hit a pair of three-pointers to put the Hawks up 27-22.
QU remaining in the lead for the rest of the half and took a 32-28 lead into the half.
Webster came alive in the third quarter, scoring 15 points in the quarter.
Webster hit a three to start the quarter and put the Hawks up seven.
The Greyhounds cut the lead to two with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter.
Webster hit another three to push the lead back to five.
Indianapolis took a 52-49 lead with 54 seconds remaining in the quarter. Webster hit her third three-pointer of the quarter to tie the game at 52-52.
A pair of free throws by the Greyhounds gave Indianapolis a two-point lead.
Jessie Rabas hit a three-pointer with six seconds to play in the quarter and the Hawks took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Hawks and Greyhounds were deadlocked at 61-61 with 5:08 to play in the fourth quarter.
Indianapolis went on a 7-0 run to take a 68-61 lead with 2:22 remaining.
The Greyhounds were able to hold the lead for the remainder of the game as Indianapolis went 5-5 from the foul line and defeated the Hawks 75-69.
The Hawks fall to 4-9, 0-4 in the GLVC. The Hawks return home Saturday (Jan. 6) to take on Maryville at 1 p.m.
