QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team battled back from a 17-point deficit to defeat the Missouri S&T Miners 84-81 Thursday (Jan. 25).
The Hawks scored on their first four possessions to take an 8-3 lead over the Miners.
Missouri S&T answered the Hawks hot start by going on a 14-0 run to take a 17-8 lead.
QU trailed by 16 with 8:24 to play in the opening half.
A 10-0 run by the Hawks cut the lead to six with 5:54 remaining in the first half.
The Miners pushed their lead back to 17 with 1:44 to play.
Demetrius Houston scored the next seven points for the Hawks and QU trailed by 11.
After a missed jumper by the Miners, the Hawks had one final chance to score.
Robby Dosier launched a shot from just beyond half court and nailed his shot at the buzzer to cut the Miners lead to eight.
The Hawks used this momentum to cut the lead to three with 15:06 to play in the game.
Missouri S&T managed to stretch the lead to 12 with 9:56 remaining.
With QU trailing by 10 the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to five.
The Miners held a seven-point lead with 6:52 to play.
QU tied the game after a seven-point run that was capped off by a thunderous dunk by
Marsalis Johnson.
With 4:03 remaining, the Miners hit a three-pointer to break the 73-73 tie and hold a 76-73 lead.
Robbie Dosier answered with a three-pointer of his own to tie the game.
The Hawks and Miners were tied at 80-80 with 1:23 to play.
QU went 4-6 from the foul line in the final minute to pull away for the three-point win.
Marcus Hinton led the Hawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Four other Hawks scored in double figures as the Hawks shot over 53% from the field.
QU improved to 7-12, 3-7 in the GLVC.
The Hawks battle the Lewis Flyers Saturday (Jan. 27) at 3:15 p.m. in Pepsi Arena.
