Hawks Lose Heartbreaker To Lewis

QUINCY, Ill. -  The Quincy University men's basketball team lost in the final seconds 76-75 against Lewis Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27).

The Hawks looked strong in the early going, thanks in large part to Ryan Briscoe's four three's in the first eight minutes of play. The Hawks led by as many as 10 midway through the first half.

The Flyers fought back, cutting the lead to just two with 8:50 remaining. Three minutes later Lewis would take a one-point lead after a three-pointer by Cristen Wilson. The Hawks and Flyers traded baskets the rest of the first half.

With 2:44 remaining, Marsalis Johnson scored a layup to give the Hawks a four-point lead. The Flyers tied the game up with just under a minute to play in the first half. QU would regain the lead after a free throw by Paulo Camillo with 0:35 seconds left to play.

The Hawks would take that one-point lead into halftime, leading the Flyers 38-37.

The battle continued in the second half. Neither team could pull away until three straight baskets by Demetrius Houston gave the Hawks a 53-46 lead with 16:12 remaining in the game.

It looked like the Hawks were pulling away after Bobby Frasco nailed a jumper to push the lead to 13 with 5:12 left to play.

However, the Hawks went cold, going scoreless in the last two and half minutes of the game. The Flyers responded with a 7-0 run in the last three minutes to cut the lead to 75-73 with  0:55 to play.

Lewis nailed a three with 0:11 seconds remaining to take a 76-75 lead.

QU had one last chance to win, but a Marcus Hinton three-pointer missed the mark with three seconds remaining, giving the Flyers a one-point win.

Ryan Briscoe led the Hawks with 19 points and six assists.  Bobby Frasco and Demetrius Houston each added 14 points.

The Hawks fall to 7-13, 3-8 in GLVC play.

QU hits the road Thursday, February 1st against Bellarmine.
