QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team fell to GLVC foe, Maryville University, 80-62 Monday night (Jan. 15). A strong second half was the difference in the loss to the Saints.
The Hawks and the Saints were part of a see-saw battle throughout much of the first half. Trading baskets for nearly 15 minutes.
QU was led by freshman point guard
Ryan Briscoe, who scored 10 points in the first half on 5-6 shooting. The Hawks held a 26-23 lead with 5:33 remaining in the first half after a jumper by senior
Bobby Frasco.
A 10-0 run by the Saints erased the Hawks three-point lead. Briscoe ended the 10-0 swing with a layup at the 2:25 mark in the first half.
The Hawks cut the lead to six just before the end of the first half on another basket by
Ryan Briscoe.
A fast start by QU in the second half cut the Saints lead to two with 15:34 remaining in the game.
The Saints responded with a 15-0 run to extend the lead to 56-40 with 11:40 to play.
The Hawks brought the lead back to 10 after a 6-0 run of their own.
QU could bring the lead no closer as the Saints shot 57% from the field in the second half.
Ryan Briscoe led the Hawks with 16 points and eight assists.
Marcus Hinton also added 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Hawks fall to 4-12, 0-7 in GLVC play.
QU returns to the floor Thursday, January 18th against McKendree. The Hawks return home on Saturday (Jan. 20) to take on the Tritons of UMSL at 3:15 in Pepsi Arena.
