QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks and the Prairie Stars battled until the final buzzer of overtime Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon. The Hawks would ultimately fall to the University of Illinois Springfield 94-89.
QU and Illinois Springfield traded baskets through the first five and a half minutes of the first half. The Prairie Stars held a 16-13 lead over the Hawks.
Illinois Springfield stretched the lead to eight with 12:40 to play in the first half.
The Hawks cut the lead to three with 9:32 remaining in the first half.
The Prairie Stars continued their hot shooting and increased their lead to 12 by the end of the first half. The Prairie Stars shot 64% from the field in the first half.
The Hawks trailed by as many as 14 with 13:32 to play in the second half. QU went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to six with 11:04 to play in the second half.
The lead was back to 10 for Illinois Springfield with 7:53 remaining in the second half.
A second 8-0 run brought the lead to two with 5:33 to play.
With the Hawks trailing 78-73, QU scored the next seven points to take an 80-78 lead with 2:10 remaining in the second half.
The Hawks took an 82-80 lead with 11 seconds remaining.
Illinois Springfield would knock down a pair of free-throws to tie the game with four seconds remaining.
QU's last-second shot was no good and the Hawks and Prairie Stars headed to overtime.
The Hawks and Prairie Stars remained tied at 87-87 with 2:33 to play in the first overtime.
Illinois Springfield took a 90-87 lead with 2:12 remaining.

Marcus Hinton cut the lead to one. The Prairie Stars went 4-4 from the foul line in the final minute to secure the five-point win.
Demetrius Houston led the Hawks with 19 points. Five other Hawks scored in double figures.
QU falls to 4-11, 0-6 in the GLVC.
The Hawks are back in action, Monday (Jan. 15) against Maryville at 7:30.
