Women's Volleyball Falls to Indianapolis In 4 Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the University of Indianapolis Friday night (Sept. 29).  QU could not overcome losing the first two sets to the Greyhounds despite winning the third set.

The Hawks failed to lead in the first set as Indianapolis came out with the hot hand.  QU managed to cut the lead to 20-16 before the Greyhounds put the set out of reach with a 25-20 set win.

Despite another early deficit the Hawks managed to battle back.  QU trailed 17-11 before a four point run trimmed the Greyhound lead to 17-15.  The Greyhounds looked to put the set away after a Rachel Irbe kill put the score at 23-21 Greyhounds.  Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) recorded back to back kills to pull the score to even at 23-23.

Two kills by Indianapolis gave the Greyhounds a 25-23 set win and put them in a commanding two sets to none lead over the Hawks.

QU wouldn't go away, making a few offensive adjustments and would win the third set 25-19 to extend the match to a fourth set.  QU used numerous attack, set and service errors to win the set.  The Hawks looked to use the momentum to extend the match to a fifth and decisive set.

With the score reading 10-7 in favor of the Greyhounds, Indianapolis used a four-point run to take control of the match at 14-7.  Indianapolis never looked back and held on for a 25-19 set win.

Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI / Waterford Union) lead the Hawks with 13 kills and Sara Rathbun (Bristol, WI / Westosha Central) added 24 assists.

The Hawks fall to 2-12 on the season and 1-5 in the GLVC.

The Hawks take on the number three team in the country, the Lewis Flyers tomorrow (Sept. 30) at 3 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
