QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team got back to its winning ways after defeating GLVC opponent UMSL 1-0 Friday evening (Sept. 29).

The Hawks started quickly, using ball control and constant pressure on the UMSL defense.  QU maintained the pressure throughout the first half despite not registering a goal.  

QU tallied 11 shots, five on goal, in the first half compared to just two for the Tritons.  QU also registered six corner kicks in the first half.  QU kept the ball on the Triton side of midfield for the majority of the first half.  

After the first 45 minutes of action, the Hawks and the Tritons went into the half tied at 0-0.  

In the 52nd minute, a deflection off a Triton defender ended up at the feet of Cassidy Foley (Quincy, IL/ Quincy Notre Dame).  Foley netted her shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to put the Hawks up 1-0.  

Foley had another opportunity to score in the 61st minute but her shot hit the crossbar and was cleared from danger.  

The Tritons picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, putting four shots on goal. 

Megan Swanson (St. Charles, MO./ St. Dominic) was up to the task, making all four saves.  Swanson's final save came with 30 seconds remaining in the game to preserve her fifth shutout of the season. 

The Hawks improve to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the GLVC.  The Hawks take on the 16th ranked McKendree Bearcats Sunday (Hawktober 1) at Legends Stadium at 12 p.m.

McKendree is the Hawks second nationally ranked opponent of the week.
