QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team improved their GLVC record to 3-3 after defeating Missouri-St. Louis Friday night (Sept. 29).
The Hawks took down the Tritons 1-0 on a penalty kick sophomore Aubrey Reis (Quincy, IL/ Quincy Notre Dame).
Scott Prsha (St. Louis, MO/ Marquette) had an opportunity early in the 1st half when he made a run down the right side and cut into the middle, but his shot was pulled in by the goalkeeper for UMSL.
After the first early push, neither team had many opportunities inside the 18 yard box. The middle of the field saw the most play and physicality.
After late corner kick attempts by both teams in the 2nd half, the game was forced to overtime.
Both teams picked up the speed and physicality in extra time. The Hawks defense was up to the challenge, only allowing one shot in the first period of extra time and two in the second.
In the 109th minute Reis drilled a penalty kick into the lower right corner of the net to end the game and give the Hawks the victory.
Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO/ CBC) had a solid outing, saving all 4 shots on goal from the Tritons.
The Hawks 1-0 win was the third shutout of the season for QU.
Quincy out shot UMSL 10-7. The Hawks played two shots on goal compared to four for the Tritons.
QU will host McKendree Sunday (Hawktober 1) in their seventh GLVC match up of the season.
