QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team completed a homecoming weekend sweep after defeating McKendree 1-0 on a goal by
Ty Rogers (Jacksonville, IL / Jacksonville).
The Hawks took advantage of their scoring opportunity after
Aubrey Reis (Quincy, IL./ Quincy Notre Dame) found Rogers inside the 18-yard box. Rogers headed his shot over the keeper to give the Hawks the 1-0 advantage.
McKendree tallied seven shots during the game but only one shot on goal. The shot on goal came in the 26th minute by Fredrik Hansen but
Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO./ CBC) made his only save of the game to hold the 1-0 lead.
QU's next opportunity to score came in the 30th minute when
Eddie Plesha's ( Normal, IL / Normal Community) header was turned away by the Bearcats goalie.
This was the last scoring chance for either team in the first half.
McKendree picked up their pace offensively while trying to tie the score in the second half. The Bearcats were unable to put a shot on goal despite five shots in the final 45 minutes of play.
The Hawks held on for the 1-0 win and their second shutout of the homecoming weekend. QU is now 5-4 on the year and 4-3 in the GLVC.
QU travels to Southern Indiana for their next GLVC contest on Friday (Hawktober 6).
