Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hawks Fall To USI 2-1

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team fell to the University of Southern Indiana 2-1 Friday night (Hawktober 6).  The Eagles struck quickly, scoring in first minute of play.  

On a Eagles throw in, the ball cleared goalkeeper Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO./ CBC) and was headed in by Justin Raines for his third goal of the season.  

It was quiet on the offensive end for much of the first half, until the 35th minute of action.   

The Hawks only shot of the first half came by Aubrey Reis (Quincy, IL./ Quincy Notre Dame) in the 35th minute of play.  Reis's shot was saved by Adam Zehme to keep the score 1-0 Eagles.  

USI almost extend its lead to 2-0 on a shot by Eric Ramirez.  Ramirez shot hit the post and was cleared away by the Hawk defense.  

The Eagles took a 1-0 into the locker room. 

The Hawks were forced to play a man down after the 51st minute of play as Jordan Stephens (St. Charles, MO / Francis Howell) received a red card.  

QU tied the score at 1-1 after Griffin's long kick found Eddie Plesha (Normal, IL / Normal Community) on a breakaway to tie the score at 1-1.  

USI answered in the 61st minute on another goal by Justin Raines from the right wing to put the Eagles up 2-1. 

Aubrey Reis put two shots on goal in the 80th and 81st minute but was turned away each time.  

The last chance for the Hawks to score came in the 85th minute when Michael Timmermann's shot went wide of the net.  

The Eagles improved to 5-5, 3-5 in the GLVC.  The Hawks fell to 5-5, 4-4 in the GLVC.  

QU travels to Bellarmine Sunday (Hawktober 8) for its next GLVC contest.
