Women's Volleyball Falls In Five Sets to UMSL

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday evening (Sept. 26).  The Hawks fell to the Tritons 3-2 after winning the first two sets.

Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI./ Waterford) lead the Hawks in the first set with six kills.  QU fell behind 10-8 in the first set before a five point swing allowed for the Hawks to retake the lead 13-10. UMSL retook the lead at 18-17 before the Hawks regained control at 20-18.  The Hawks closed out the first set by winning five of the next eight points, capped off by a kill by Raebel.

The Hawks gained an early advantage in the second set and trailed only once when the score stood at 3-2 in favor of UMSL.  QU took advantage of several attack errors  and service errors by the Tritons to maintain control of the second set.  The Hawks remained in the lead and won the second set 25-16.

QU fell behind early to UMSL 4-1.  QU continued to have to come from behind including late in the set when the score read 21-17.  QU rallied back after a pair of kills by Lauren Nadler (Charleston, IL / Charleston) and a kill by Bekah Raebel brought the score to 21-20.   UMSL would not go quietly and gained a 24-22 advantage with a chance to extend the match to a fourth set.

Three straight errors by UMSL gave the Hawks a 25-24 lead and a chance to win the match.  UMSL used a three point run of their own to extend the match with a 27-25 set win.

UMSL used the momentum for the third set to take the advantage in the fourth set.  The Tritons largest lead came at 24-16.  QU rolled off four straight points to trim the lead to 24-20 but the lead was too much and UMSL took the next point to win the fourth set 25-20.

In the decisive fifth set, UMSL won the first three points to take a 3-0 lead. QU battled back to trim the lead to 7-5.  UMSL scored the last eight points to win the set 15-5 and take the match.

The Hawks were lead by Raebel, who tallied 19 kills in the match.  Nadler also added 12 kills for the Hawks.

Kylie Rudsinski of UMSL lead all players with 21 kills in the match.
