QUINCY, Ill. -  The Quincy University football team lost to Southwest Baptist University 55-6 Saturday afternoon (Sept. 23).  The Hawks could never find their stride on the offensive side of the ball and managed just 132 yards of total offense.

On the first possession of the game SBU marched deep into Hawk territory.  On the QU nine yard line Michael Branch took a handoff to the QU goal line before he was met by a host of QU tacklers and fumbled into the end zone.  The Hawks recovered and took over at their own 20 yard line.

Just two plays later QU gave the ball right back after a fumbled pitch from Andrew Rund (St. Louis, MO./St. Louis Priory) to Chris Harris (Springfield, IL/Sacred Heart Griffin) was recovered by SBU on the QU 18.

TJ Edwards found Cassian Foreman for a 15 touchdown pass to put the Bearcats up 7-0 five minutes into the first quarter.

The Hawks next possession stalled and QU was forced to punt.  Nathan Kewney (Quincy, IL/ Quincy High School) pinned the Bearcats on their own two yard line after a 59 yard punt.

The next play from scrimmage, TJ Edwards carried out a play action fake and found Foreman streaking down the sideline for a 98 yard touchdown pass and the Bearcats lead 14-0.

QU responded with a over a six minute, 13 play drive that resulted in a 22 yard field goal by Michael Klotz (Millstadt, IL/Oakville) to bring the score to 14-3.

The Hawk defense forced a punt on the next Bearcat possession.  The snap was mishandled by SBU punter Dylan Handlin and the Hawks defense tackled him after a four yard rush.  The Hawks took over at the SBU 24 yard line.

After a rush for no gain and a pair of incomplete passes, the Hawks were forced to attempt a 42 yard field goal.  Klotz drilled his attempt through the uprights and cut the lead to 14-6.

SBU answered with a 79 yard drive and TJ Edwards' second passing touchdown of the afternoon and the Bearcats extended its lead to 20-6.

The next four possessions resulted in punts for both teams.

The Hawks took over at their own 29 yard line trying to cut into the Bearcat lead with just over three minutes to play in the first half.

Chris Poindexter (St. Louis, MO./Pattonville) fumbled a handoff and the SBU defense scooped up the loose ball and rumbled into the end zone to give SBU a 27-6 lead.

The Hawks could not mount a scoring drive on the next possession and were forced to punt again.

The Bearcats took over with just over a minute to play in the first half. SBU took advantage of a defensive holding call on the Hawks extended their drive.  After a 32 yard completion, TJ Edwards found Jerminic Smith for a eight yard touchdown pass.  SBU took a 34-6 lead into the half.
