QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team fell to Missouri S&T 1-0 Friday night (Sept. 22). 

A free kick goal by David Murphy in the 27th minute was the difference in the game.  Offensively the Hawks out shot the Miners 20-12 with eight shots being on goal.  

QU had early chances but none of the shots were able to find the back of the net.  

The free kick came as a result of a foul by the Hawks two yards outside of the 18 yard box.  David Murphy stepped up and buried his free kick to put the Miners up 1-0.  

QU had several more chances in the first half, including a header by Conner Sendobry (St. Louis, MO./UW-Green Bay) and a shot by Cooper Reis (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) but both were turned away by the Miners goalie. 

After the half the Hawks tallied five shots on goal but Aaron Hohenstein made all five saves to maintained the 1-0 win for Missouri S&T.  The Hawks totaled 12 shots in the second half compared to to six for the Miners. 

Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO./CBC) made five saves to keep the Hawks within striking distance.  

QU falls to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in the GLVC. 

The Hawks travel to Maryville University for their next GLVC match up on Sunday (Sept. 24).  QU will return home next Friday (Sept. 29) to take on UMSL.
