QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell to Cedarville and Ferris State on the final day of the Ferris State Invitational Saturday (Sept.2).
QU fell in five sets to Cedarville in the first match.
The Hawks took the early advantage winning the first set 25-15. In the first set, the Hawks scored 10 of the first 13 points, taking advantage of several Cedarville mistakes. Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) and Bekah Raebel (Goodyear, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) each collected multiple kills in the first set.

The Hawks responded early in the third set, taking a 9-4 lead. Cedarville tied the game at 11-11. The third set saw more back and forth action until Cedarville scored the games' final five points to win the third set 25-17.
QU extended the match to a fifth and decisive set after winning the fourth set 25-16. Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, MI/Fenton) had four kills in set and the Hawks scored the final eight points to win the set.
Cedarville jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set and the Hawks were unable to cut into that lead and fell in the 15-11
In the second match of the day the Hawks again jumped out to an early advantage, winning the first set 25-17 over Ferris State (4-0). The Hawks trailed 14-12 in the first set before rattling off a run of 10 straight points. Bobby Eastman had five kills in that 10-point run. QU comfortably held on for the 25-17 set win.
Ferris State responded by scoring the first eight points in the second set. This lead was too much for the Hawks to overcome and the Bulldogs won the second set 25-15.
The third set saw the Hawks trailing 5-1 early in the set. QU used a six point run midway through the set to take a 14-12 lead. The Hawks and Bulldogs traded punches for the remainder of the set. The Hawks had a chance to win the third set after a kill by Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, WI/Denmark). However, he Bulldogs scored the final four points of the set to win 26-24.
The Hawks put up a tough battle in the fourth set but were unable to take a lead from Ferris State. QU fell in the fourth set 25-19.
Quincy will be back in action Friday (Sept. 8) at Pepsi Arena.
