QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell 3-2 to the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday afternoon (Sept. 16).
The Hawks and UIS battled through a tough first set, trading points for the entire first set. Neither team lead by more that three points in the set.
The Hawks took a 25-24 lead after a kill by
Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI / Waterford Union). UIS scored three consecutive points to win the first set 27-25.
QU jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set. UIS managed to stay within striking distance for the remainder of the set. QU had set point again with a 24-22 lead. UIS scored three consecutive points to force the Hawks into set point.
Lauren Nadler (Charleston, IL / Charleston) extended the match with a kill and set the score at 25-25. After trading points, a pair of kills by UIS gave the Prairie Stars a 28-26 set win.
The Hawks responded by winning the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-22.
In the fifth and final set UIS took a commanding 11-3 lead. QU battled back to trim the score to 14-10. The lead was too much to overcome and the Hawks fell to the Prairie Stars 15-10 in the final set.
Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, WI / Denmark) lead the Hawks with 17 kills. Bekah Raebel also added 15 kills. McMonagle also tallied 33 digs in her double-double effort.
QU falls to 1-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Hawks travel to Truman State next Friday (Sept. 22) in another GLVC matchup.
