QUINCY, Ill. -
Chris McArthur (St. Louis, MO/ CBC) ripped a 25 yard shot into the back left corner of the goal to lift the Hawks to a 2-1 win over Drury University Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks responded after a tough 2-1 loss to Rockhurst on Friday (Sept. 15).
For the majority of the first half, neither team could mount much offense. In the 34th minute Parker Crawford snuck a shot passed
Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO/ CBC) to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Drury maintained a 1-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play.
Five minutes into the second half,
Alec Roussin (Fenton, MO/ Vianney) played a cross into the box and
Ty Rogers (Jacksonville, IL/ Jacksonville) beat the keeper with a header for his first goal of the season and tie the game at 1-1.
Drury fired four shots in the following five minutes but none could find the net.
With under 3 minutes remaining the game looked as if the teams would head into overtime.
Then
Anthony Christante (Fenton, MO/ Vianney) stepped in front of a pass to gain possession for the Hawks just beyond midfield. Christante found McArthur in space and McArthur buried his shot to give the Hawks a 2-1 win.
The Hawks travel to Missouri S&T Friday (Sept. 22) for their next GLVC contest.
