Eddie Plesha (Normal, IL / Normal Community) got the Quincy University men's soccer team off to a fast start in QU's GLVC match up against undefeated Rockhurst.
The junior forward took a long pass from
Michael Timmermann (St. Charles, MO / Francis Howell) and took a shot that deflected off the left post and in to give QU a 1-0 lead just a minute and eight seconds into the match.
For the remaining 44 minutes of play both offenses remained quiet and Quincy took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Rockhurst picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, applying constant pressure to the QU defense.
Nate Griffin (St. Louis, MO/ CBC) made back to back saves in the 50th minute to keep the lead 1-0 for QU.
In the 55th minute, Rockhurst tied the game on a goal by Kaleb Jackson. Rockhurst kept up the offensive pressure, including seven corner kicks in the second half.
With under three minutes to play Sean Michel chipped a shot over the QU defense that crossed the goal line just before QU was able to clear the ball.
Rockhurst held on for the win and improved to 4-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in GLVC play.
Quincy now sits at 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in the GLVC.
QU is back in action Sunday at 3 pm at Legends Stadium. The Hawks will take on Drury University in another GLVC contest.
