Hawks Earn Wins In Regular Season Finale

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's and men's tennis teams concluded their regular seasons with wins on Tuesday (April 18) with matches against Lewis & Clark Community College at Reservoir Park. The women won in a clean sweep, 9-0, while the men earned an 8-1 victory.
 
In doubles play, the QU women (10-11) earned wins at all three spots. Senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) and junior Sydney Lynch (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) took down Jane Grieser and Anna Holland, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
 
Junior Rebecca McIsaac (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleview East) and senior Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) were winners over Maria Garcia and Laura Moore, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.
 
At No. 3 doubles, senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) and sophomore Anna Konczak (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) toppled Georgia Ballard and Nina Breuer, 8-1.
 
In singles play, the Hawks lost only three games in the top four positions. Kuhle was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Madeline Swiecicki at the top singles spot. At No. 2, Kuenzi defeated Garcia, 6-0, 6-1. McIsaac beat Grieser by scores of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, while McGinnis swept Moore, 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth spot.
 
Freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Canada) knocked off Nina Breuer, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Konczak defeated Hollan, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
 
On the men's side, the Hawks (3-13) won all three doubles matches. Senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/IPSE/East Central) and junior Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) took down Daniel Gomez and Carson Ware at No. 1 doubles without losing a game, 8-0.
 
At No. 2 doubles, junior Wyatt Pauley (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and sophomore Danyil Vayser (Round Lake, Ill./Gymnasium "Konsul" #86) defeated Pedro Ferretti and Adrian Savic by retirement, but led 4-2 at the time.
 
Juniors Michael Lesko (Columbia, Ill./Gibault Catholic) and Ryan McMillan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) beat Nikola Djordjevic and Juan Camilo Chinchilla, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Eldagsen needed a first-set tiebreaker, but still beat Gomez, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, handily at the top singles position. At No. 2 singles, Vayser was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Djordjevic.
 
Adams toppled Vincent Gass, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Lesko stopped Pedro Ferretti, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Freshman Patrick Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) won by 6-1, 6-2 scores at No. 6 singles over Ware.
 
This was the final regular season match for Kuhle, Kuenzi, McGinnis and Eldagsen, who will all graduate from the program this spring.

The men's team will continue its season on Friday at noon when they take on the East's No. 1 seed Indianapolis in the first round of the GLVC Tournament in St. Louis. Quincy earned the West's No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. It is their third straight GLVC Tournament appearance.
