Hawks Drop Four-Set Match To #9 Loyola Chicago

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team took No. 9 Loyola Chicago to four sets, but the Ramblers (10-5, 4-2 MIVA) came away with a 25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15 win in MIVA action on Thursday (March 2) night at Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks (3-13, 1-9 MIVA), playing their first match under interim head coach Bob Crank, struggled stopping the Ramblers (10-5, 4-2 MIVA) in the first two sets as the visitors hit .382 before the intermission.

In Set 3, it looked like the Ramblers were again in control after taking a 21-18 lead. That is when the Hawks rallied.

Senior Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) put down a kill, followed by a ball-handling error on Loyola to cut the deficit to 21-20 and force a timeout. Quincy answered with two more points, a kill by junior Shane McAdams (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge/San Diego City) and a double block for Kelso and sophomore Adam Rogan (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North), before another timeout by the Ramblers.

With McAdams still serving, junior Anthony Winter (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/St. Edward) put down back-to-back kills and followed that up by sharing a block with Kelso to end the set.

The Hawks were not able to keep their momentum going in the fourth set, trailing 6-2 at the start as they could never get the lead.

Winter led the Hawks with 12 kills (.333) to go with seven digs. Siebum added 10 kills (.000) and nine digs. McAdams totaled nine digs and six kills. Kelso picked up six kills and four blocks. Rogan led the Hawks with 23 assists as the home team hit .100 in the match.

Cole Murray led the Ramblers with 12 kills as the Ramblers hit .291.

The Hawks will return to the floor on Saturday (March 4) at 2 p.m. when they take on No. 5 Lewis at Pepsi Arena.
