Strong First Half Leads Panthers Past Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. -  A strong first half gave the Drury Panthers the advantage in their 87-72 win over the Quincy University men's basketball team Thursday night (Dec. 7).  

A defensive struggle through the first five minutes of play saw the Hawks and the Panthers knotted at 6-6.  

A Bobby Frasco three-pointer gave the Hawks a 9-6 lead. After a basket by Drury, Frasco hit a second three to put the Hawks up 12-8.  The Panthers knocked down a pair of threes to give Drury a 14-12 lead.  

Frasco hit his third straight three to give the Hawks a 15-14 lead.  

The Hawks and Panthers stood tied at 17-17 with 12:14 to play in the first half.  

Drury proceeded to use a 14-2 run to grab a 31-19 lead with 7:52 remaining.  

With the Hawks trailing 33-21, Frasco hit his fourth three-pointer of the first half to cut the lead to nine.  

QU trailed by as many as 17 but were able to trim the lead to 12 by the end of the first half of play.  

At the 18:12 mark in the second half the Hawks cut the lead to 10 after a jumper by Marsalis Johnson.  

The Panthers pushed the lead back to 17 with 7:29 to play.  A three by Demetrius Houston cut the lead to 11 with 5:55 remaining in the second half.  

Drury held a 12 point lead with just under three minutes remaining in the game.  A pair of free throws by Houston brought the Hawks within 10. 

QU was held scoreless for the rest of the contest and fell to the Panthers 87-72.  

Demetrius Houston led the Hawks with 19 points on 6-10 shooting.  Bobby Frasco scored a career-high 17 points, making five three-pointers.  

Marcus Hinton added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  

QU falls to 1-7, 0-3 in GLVC play.  

The Hawk face off against Hannibal LaGrange Saturday, December 8th at Pepsi Arena at 7:30 p.m.
