QUINCY, Ill. - After a near perfect first set, the Hawks fell to the University of Southern Indiana 3-1 Friday night (Nov. 3).
The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the first set, recording 17 kills in a 25-16 set win.
Seniors Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI / Waterford Union) and Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, MI / Fenton) combined for 11 kills to lead the Hawks in the first set.
The Screaming Eagles responded by grabbing a 6-2 lead in the second set. After the Hawks trimmed the lead to 11-9, USI extended the lead to 16-9.
Southern Indiana comfortably led for the remainder of the set and won 25-17.
The Hawks looked to respond by taking the third set and gaining a 2-1 advantage.
QU had set point a 24-23 before USI scored back to back points to take a 25-24 lead. The Hawks then tied the set at 26-26. USI took the final two points to claim the set 28-26.
Quincy collected a 9-7 lead in the fourth set. Southern Indiana rattled off nine straight points to take a 16-9 lead. The Hawks couldn't recover and fell to the Screaming Eagles 25-16.
Raebel led the Hawks with 15 kills and now has over 1,000 kills in her Hawks career.
The Hawks are now 7-19, 4-11 in the GLVC.
