Hawks Volleyball Falls to UIS In Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team lost to Illinois Springfield 3-1 Tuesday night (Oct. 31) in the final home game of the 2017 season.  

Despite winning the first set 25-20, the Hawks couldn't maintain the momentum for the remainder of the game.   The Hawks and Prairie Stars were evenly matched throughout the first set.  

The Hawks trailed 18-17 before winning nine of the last 11 points to claim the first set victory.  

QU struggled in the second set.  The Hawks had 11 attack errors and totaled nine kills in the set.  The Prairie Stars collected 12 kills and had just four attack errors in the 25-16 set win.   The Hawks trailed 19-11 but were able to trim the lead to 19-16 before UIS took the final six points to secure the set win.  

Quincy fell behind early in the third set, trailing 10-3.  Illinois Springfield efficiently tallied 14 kills to just three attack errors.  The Hawks were unable to recover after the slow start and fell to the Prairie Stars 25-18.  

QU looked to extend the match to a fifth set and grabbed a quick 10-9 lead.  UIS scored the next four points to take a 13-10 lead.  The Hawks responded by tying the score at 16-16. 

Nearing the end of the fourth set, Illinois Springfield held a 19-18 lead over the Hawks.  

The Prairie Stars took six of the last seven points to win the set 25-19 and win the match.  

QU was lead by Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI / Waterford Union), who tallied 16 kills in the match.  

Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, MI / Fenton) also added 11 kills for the Hawks. 

QU falls to 7-18, 4-10 in the GLVC.
