Hawks Fall In Final Home Game To Truman State

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University football team lost its final home game of the 2017 season to Truman State 31-7.

The Hawks allowed 252 yards rushing and were shutout through the first three-quarters of action.

QU was limited to 55 yards rushing on 21 attempts.

Truman grabbed an early 7-0 lead when the Bulldogs scored on their opening possession.  Truman used an eight play, 70-yard drive capped off by Jaden Barr four-yard touchdown run.

QU went three and out on its next possession and gave the ball to the Bulldogs at their own 35-yard line.

The Bulldogs scored again on their next possession, scoring on a 22-yard run by Jordan Salima.  The Bulldogs led 14-0 with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter.

After a pair of punts, the Hawks cut into the 14 point deficit.

QU marched the ball down to the Truman 34-yard line.  The Hawks turned the ball over on downs after Andrew Rund's (St. Louis, Mo./ St. Louis Priory) pass to Jake Braskett (Wonder Lake, IL / McHenry) fell incomplete.

The Bulldogs would extend their lead to 21-0 after a three yard touchdown pass from Barr to Hayden Holt.

After the Hawks were forced to punt on their next possession, Truman looked to add to its 21 point lead.

On third and goal at the Hawks eight-yard line, Jacob Lounsberry (Sherman, IL / Williamsville) sacked Jaden Barr and forced a fumble.  The fumble was recovered by Bryce Johnson (Rockford, IL / Auburn) and returned to the QU 25-yard line.

The Hawks looked to trim the Bulldogs lead with 35 seconds remaining.  QU moved the ball to the 45-yard line but Rund was sacked and the teams went into the half with the Bulldogs leading 21-0.

QU punted on its opening possession of the second half.

The Bulldogs gave QU the ball back after the Hawks defense forced a punt.

On the Hawks second possession of the half, QU was forced into another three and out.

Nathan Kewney's (Quincy, IL / Quincy) punt was blocked and traveled just 24 yards.

The Bulldogs took over at the Hawks 33-yard line.

Truman took a shot on the first play of the possession and Barr found Malique Robbins on a 33-yard pitch and catch for another Bulldog touchdown.

With 6:03 remaining in the third quarter the Hawks drove down to the Truman four-yard line.  After a loss of two on third down, Trip Gibson's (Columbia, MO / Tolton Catholic) pass to Evan Powell (St. Clair, MO / St. Clair) was short of the sticks and the Hawks turned the ball over on downs.

Truman State kicked a 41-yard field goal on their next possession to extend the lead to 31-0.

The Hawks got on the board after Gibson found Brendan Saak (Belleville, IL / Belleville West) for a 17-yard score to bring the lead to 31-7.

The final four minutes of the game remained scoreless and the Hawks fell to Truman 31-7.

The Hawks saw their record slip to 3-6, 1-4 in the GLVC.

QU travels to McKendree next Saturday (Nov. 4) to take on the Bearcats.
