Hawks Fall To UMSL in Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball fell to the University of Missouri-St. Louis 3-1 Friday night (Oct. 27).  

The Hawks and the Tritons were evenly matched throughout the majority of the first set.  Late in the first set, the Hawks held a lead of 17-14.  UMSL proceeded to win the next five points to take a 19-17 lead.  After trading the next four points the Tritons won the final four points to win the first set 25-19.  

QU held the Tritons in check for the second set and held UMSL to just eight kills in the set.  QU also recorded four blocks in the second set.  QU was able to tie the match at a set a piece with a 25-16 win.  

In the third set, the Hawks and Tritons again played evenly throughout the beginning of the set.  UMSL took an 11-7 after a four-point run.  The Tritons took the largest lead of the game with a 16-11 lead.  UMSL held a comfortable four-point lead until the score stood at 19-15.  

The Hawks used a five-point run to take a 20-19 lead late in the third set.  Two Quincy errors gave the Tritons back a 21-20 lead.  Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, MI / Fenton) tied the score at 21-21 as the Hawks looked to retake the lead and claim a third set victory.  

A pair of kills by Selena Nolte from UMSL regained the lead for the home team.  The Tritons were able to take the third set by a score of 25-23. 

The Hawks took the opening two points of the fourth set and looked to extend the match to a decisive fifth set.  QU an UMSL battled throughout the fourth set with UMSL holding the largest lead of the match at three points.  

Facing match point at 24-21, the Hawks took the next three points to extend the set and the match.  

Alex Miner of UMSL recorded the next two kills and the Tritons took the set and the match.  

Bekah Raebel (Waterford, WI / Waterford Union) lead the Hawks with 17 kills. 

QU falls to 7-17 on the season and 4-9 in the GLVC.

The Hawks return home on Halloween (Tuesday Oct. 31) to face Illinois Springfield at Pepsi Arena.
