QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University football team traveled to Indiana to take on the nationally ranked Indiananpolis Greyhounds Saturday (Hawktober 14). The Greyhounds came into the game with their highest ranking in school history at number five.
The Greyhounds defeated the Hawks 55-0 to extend their regular season winning streak to 11.
Indianapolis scored on their third play after a QU punt on the opening possession. The score came on a 64-yard touchdown run by Al McKeller to put the Greyhounds up 7-0.
The Hawks turned the ball over on downs to give the Greyhounds the ball on the 50-yard line on the next possession.
Indianapolis scored again on a 9 play, 50 yard drive capped off by a seven yard touchdown run by Andrew Walker to bring the score to 14-0.
The Hawks broke into Greyhound territory on their next drive but gave the ball back to the Greyhounds on a fumble by
Andrew Rund (St. Louis, MO./ St. Louis Priory).
Jake Purichia found Garrett Willis for a 48-yard completion down to the Hawks eight yard line. Al McKeller scored his second touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 21-0.
The Hawks would be forced to punt as
Nathan Kewney (Quincy, IL./Quincy) hit a 67 yard punt down to the Indianapolis 12 yard line. A penalty brought the ball down to the Indy seven yard line.
Five rushing plays put the Greyhounds at the QU 46 yard line. Purichia found Aaron Matio for a 46-yard touchdown pass to put the Greyhounds up 28-0.
The Greyhounds scored one more time before the half and the Hawks were unable to find their stride offensively and Indy took a 35-0 lead into the half.
Indianapolis started their first drive of the second half at the 50 yard line. On the fifth play of the drive
Cody Leonard (Carrollton, IL / Carrollton) came free and sacked Jake Purichia. On the sack Leonard forced a fumble and then recovered the fumble to give the ball to the Hawks.
Dylan Rosado (Greenwood, IL / Greenwood Community) rushed for 17 yards on the next play to bring the Hawks to the Greyhounds 34.
Trip Gibson (Columbia, MO / Tolton Catholic) took over at quarterback but had two passes fall incomplete, including a fourth an eight pass that gave the ball back to Indianapolis.
Indianapolis added another score to bring the score to 48-0 at the end of the third quarter.
On the Hawks second possession of the fourth quarter Gibson was intercepted by Blake Luker and the interception was returned for a touchdown to bring the score to 55-0.
The Hawks were able to drive to the Indianapolis 15 before Gibson was intercepted again, this time by Noel Robleto.
The QU defense forced another turnover on the next possession as
Theo Hopkins (Chicago, IL / Leo) forced a fumble that was recovered by
Cody Leonard.
The Hawks final possession ended on a turnover on downs at the Indianapolis 32.
The Greyhounds would take a knee and run the remaining time off the clock and win 55-0.
The last regular season loss for Indianapolis came to QU last season when the Hawks defeated the Greyhounds 33-20 at QU Stadium.
QU travels to Miami, Oklahoma for a neutral site game against Texas-Permian Basin next Saturday (Hawktober 21).
