Williams, Barnes Hit Career Highs in Thursday Defeat

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team dropped a 72-59 decision to Missouri S&T on Thursday (Jan. 26) night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Pepsi Arena.
 
The Hawks (4-16, 1-9 GLVC) fell behind early as the Miners (8-10, 3-7 GLVC) used an 11-0 run in the first quarter to take a 17-6 lead. Freshman forward Alexa Low (Beavercreek, Ohio) stopped the run with a layup from a feed by freshman guard Taylor Hickey (Keokuk, Iowa/Burlington Notre Dame) with 2:41 left in the first quarter.
 
The Miners stretched their lead to as many as 19 points, 30-11, in the first half. Senior Selina Barnes (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sierra/Southeastern CC) converted a three-point play with 49 seconds left in the half to cut the halftime deficit to 37-23.
 
Quincy never got it to single digits in the second half as the Miners shot 69 percent (9-for-13) from the field in the third quarter.
 
Senior forward Cha Cha Williams (Bolingbrook, Ill./Seton Hill) matched a QU career high with 16 points to go with eight rebounds. Barnes also scored a career high with 13 points, adding six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore wing Jessie Rabas (De Pere, Wis.) scored 10 points and made all four of her field goal tries.
 
Maddie Raley paced the Miners with 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench. She was 6-for-8 from the field and hit all four of her 3-point attempts.
 
The Miners connected at a 53 percent (30-for-57) clip from the field and knocked down 8-of-13 (62 percent) 3-pointers.
 
The Hawks will look to snap their six-game losing skid on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 1 p.m. when they take on No. 12 Drury at Pepsi Arena.
