Tough Second Quarter Too Much For Hawks To Overcome

Quincy, Ill. — The Quincy University women's basketball team battled the University of Southern Indiana Saturday (Jan. 14) in GLVC action.  The Hawks fell to the Screaming Eagles 74-51.

Quincy (4-13, 1-6 GLVC) got out to a good start behind five quick points by Senior Nikia Edom (Romeoville, IL/Murry State) and lead USI 13-11 after the first quarter.  The Hawks and the Eagles were tied at 23 with 5:20 remaining in the second quarter.  Southern Indiana (14-2, 6-0 GLVC) proceeded to use a 18-4 run for the remainder of the quarter to take a 41-27 lead into the half.

Turnovers again plagued the Hawks as QU committed 27 turnovers that lead to 28 points for USI.  The Eagles were relentless on glass and pulled down 42 rebounds, 20 of which were offensive rebounds.

The halftime deficit was too much for the Hawks to overcome and Southern Indiana held on for the 74-51 win.  QU shot 38% from the field and were limited to 18 field goals.

Cha Cha Williams (Bolingbrook, IL/Seton Hill) and Nikia Edom both scored 10 points for the Hawks.  Southern Indiana's Hannah Washer lead all scorers with 18 points.

Quincy travels to UMSL Thursday (Jan. 19) and is on the road again Saturday (Jan. 21) in GLVC action.
