30-For-30 Great Moments in QU Football History

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University football team will celebrate homecoming with special guests from the 1986 QU football team. The 1986 team comes back to QU Stadium for the 30th anniversary of the reinstatement of football at Quincy University.
 
Over the next three days we will take a look back at 30 great moments in the history of Hawks football. Following are the first ten great moments in chronological order.
 
--- March 18, 1986 - Quincy officially reinstates the football program after a 33 year absence.
 
--- September 14, 1986 - Quincy University plays its first junior varsity football game since 1953 resulting in a 10-3 win at Iowa Wesleyan. Willie Baker scores the Hawks first touchdown on a one-yard plunge.
 
--- October 5, 1986 - The first junior varsity football game at QU Stadium since 1953 (33 years) ends in 12-6 win over MacMurray.
 
--- September 5, 1987 - Quincy University records their first varsity victory of the new era with a 7-0 win at Eureka College.
 
--- September 3, 1988 - The Hawks win their first varsity home game over Eureka College 14-7.
 
--- November 4, 1989 - Jerry Ellerman scores six touchdowns against MacMurray.
 
--- September 7, 1991 - The Hawks defeat William Penn College 14-0 setting school records for sacks (10) and fewest rushing yards allowed (-47).
 
--- November 14, 1992 - QU 7, Culver-Stockton 6 - Nobie Gooden, playing his first season of football after playing basketball the past two seasons, was held without a catch until late in the game and dropped two passes earlier that day. However, he outjumped two C-SC defenders to catch a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chip Campbell with 3:28 remaining in the game.
 
--- October 3, 1993 -  QU 24, Eureka 23 - The Hawks trailed 23-0 late in the third quarter, but quarterback Chip Campbell comes off the bench to complete 14 of 25 passes for 170s yards and two touchdowns in little more than a quarter. Nobie Gooden catches a school record 17 passes for 204 yards, and Dock Harris kicks a 26-yard field goal in the final seconds to win the game.
 
--- October 16, 1993 - Rob Munson ran for 287 yards to set a QU record versus Greenville in a 49-14 win.
