Hawks Roll Lindenwood With Efficient, Balanced Attack

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team opened a six-match homestand on Tuesday (Sept. 20) night and toppled Lindenwood, 25-19, 25-13, 25-21, in nonconference action at Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks hit .333 in the match, their highest hitting percentage and the first time they have hit .300 since a win over William Jewell on Oct. 4, 2014. QU hit at least .300 in all three sets on Tuesday.

Quincy (6-5) was dominant in all three sets and held the Lions (4-6) to a .090 hitting mark. In the first set, the Hawks rode the play of senior Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, Ill./Chicago Christian), who put down six kills. The Hawks trailed the set, 6-5, before a 4-0 run with junior Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) on the serve gave them a 9-6 lead they would not relinquish.

The Hawks never trailed in Set 2, pulling away early with four straight kills by sophomore Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, Wis./Denmark) that broke a 3-3 tie. QU would add on with McMonagle serving to take a 13-4 advantage. Consecutive kills by junior Bekah Raebel (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) handed the Hawks the set.

Quincy had to come from behind in Set 3. Head coach Bob Crank called a timeout with the Hawks down 15-12 and the home team rallied for the next five points to take a 17-15 lead on the serve of sophomore Marissa Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas/Reagan). QU would not give up the lead from there as junior Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, Mich.) finished the match with a kill.

McMonagle led the Hawks with 13 kills (.267) to go with seven digs, while Lindemulder tacked on 12 kills (.455) and three blocks. Licurgo was also in double figures with 10 kills (.500) with just one error on 18 swings.

Junior libero Rachel Shores (Huntley, Ill.) led the back row with 14 digs and three aces. Junior setter Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) kept the engine running smoothly with 39 assists and seven digs.

Bailey Dvorak led the Lions with seven kills.

The Hawks continue their homestand over Homecoming weekend, welcoming Bellarmine (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Southern Indiana (Saturday, 3 p.m.) to Pepsi Arena.
