Hawks Take Down Bellarmine In Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team dispatched Bellarmine, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 27-25, in front of a Homecoming crowd at Pepsi Arena on Friday (Sept. 23).

The Hawks (7-5, 2-1 GLVC) stormed through the first two sets before the Knights (9-3, 0-3 GLVC) battled back to send the match to a wild fourth set that featured 19 tie scores and 11 lead changes.

The final lead change came with the Hawks trailing 23-22. Following a Quincy timeout, senior Emily Lindemulder (Homer Glen, Ill./Chicago Christian) put down back-to-back kills to give the Hawks match point. The Knights then tied it back up before Lindemulder once again gave the Hawks match point with another kill.

A kill by Aurryella Mason tied the set at 25-25, but a service error by the Knights gave QU its third set point and this time the Hawks took advantage. Juniors Jessica Licurgo (Goodyear, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and Bobbie Eastman (Fenton, Mich.) combined on a block to give the Hawks the win.

Quincy hit .169 for the match and limited the Knights to a .154 mark. QU hit .343 in the second set.

Junior Bekah Raebel (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) led the Hawks with 15 kills (.294) to go with seven digs. Sophomore Taylor McMonagle (Green Bay, Wis./Denmark) added 11 kills and 11 digs.

Five of Lindemulder's nine kills (.227) came in the fourth set and she added nine blocks in the match. Eastman had seven kills and eight blocks. The Hawks set a season high with 11 blocks in the match.

Junior Miranda Rodriguez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) dished out 34 assists and added six digs. Junior libero Rachel Shores (Huntley, Ill.) led the defense with 17 digs, while sophomore Marissa Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas/Reagan) had 10 digs.

The Hawks will welcome Southern Indiana to Pepsi Arena at 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 24).
