Hawks Score Twice In First Half, Tie McKendree

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team scored twice in the first half, but McKendree responded with a pair of goals after halftime, including the equalizer in the 88th minute, as the teams played to a 2-2 tie Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon in Lebanon, Ill.

The Hawks (2-1-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) got on the board with their first shot of the game, which came in the fourth minute. Redshirt-junior forward Jordan Stephens (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) played a pass to senior midfielder Taylor Reis (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame), who slotted his second goal of the season.

Quincy added a second goal in the 32nd minute as redshirt-junior forward Artan Emini (Yorkville, Ill.) played a pass to Stephens, who gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Stephens now has one goal and two assists on the season, while Emini registered his first assist.

The Hawks held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the first half and had a 16-12 lead in total shots for the game.

McKendree (1-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) was able to take advantage of the few chances it had in front of goal, scoring twice on just three total shots on goal.

The first came in the 70th minute as Felipe Thompson found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.

Then, just three minutes from the final whistle, Abdoulaye Bah knocked in a header on a corner kick to tie the game and send it to overtime.

The Hawks had a 4-3 advantage on shots in the extra periods, but could not score the game-winner.

The Hawks will now head to Legends Stadium for the next four games, beginning Friday (Sept. 16) night against Southern Indiana. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
