Snyder Breaks QU RBI and Hits Records in NCAA Loss

QUINCY, Ill. - Ryan Snyder finished his career at Quincy University by placing his name atop two more records in the QU record books. Snyder broke the single season RBI record (88) and the single season hits record (92) while adding to his single season home run record (23) against Missouri S&T in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at QU Stadium on Sunday, May 22. QU fell to S&T on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to end their season. the Miners claimed the 9-8 win and went on to defeat Ashland 12-4 to book a meeting with Southern Indiana in the Midwest Regional Championship.

Snyder broke the single season RBI record held by Kevin Sewell (2004) in the third inning. Snyder scored David Jacob on a single through the right side for his 86th RBI of the season giving the Hawks (39-18) a 4-4 tie with the Miners (39-18).

Snyder singled and collected another RBI while scoring Jacob again in the fifth to tie the single season hits record at 91 held by Derek Harlan (1997). It is also tied the game at 6-6.

Snyder's next hit gave the Hawks an 8-7 lead in commanding fashion. The senior left the yard with a no doubt solo shot to left field that gave the St. Louis, Mo. native his 92nd hit, 88th RBI, and 23rd home run of the season.

The scoring started for the Hawks in the first inning when David Jacob hit his 11th home run of the season. Jacob blasted a three run homer to the football field in right scoring Brynn Martinez and Dominic Miles.

The Miners answered in the bottom of the first inning by scoring four runs off Graham Spraker.

Spraker threw four innings allowing six earned runs on eight hits and a walk.

The Hawks climbed back on top in the third inning, but Trevor Karbowski hit a home run to left field to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom half.

After Snyder's home run in the seventh inning, Nick Ulrich tied the game with a solo shot of his own to right field to tie the game at 8-8.

Jake Peterson (L, 6-4) threw four and a third innings of relief allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks.

The Hawks got into trouble in the ninth inning when the lead off man got on for S&T. After a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Teddy Rule came on in relief. Karbowski hit a single to right field, but the Miners held the runner at third to keep the bases loaded.

Collin Zurweller worked the count to 3-0 before eventually hitting the game winning sacrifice fly to right field to give the Miners the win.

Snyder's throw from right was just a half second late as David Hayes put a tag on the sliding Miner after he touched home plate.

Only four Hawks collected hits in the game. David Jacob was 4-for-5. Brynn Martinez and Jake Walters were 2-for-5. Ryan Snyder finished 3-for-5.

The final two teams of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament will play at QU Stadium tomorrow (May 23). Southern Indiana will face Missouri S&T at noon, and if S&T wins game one then there will be another game roughly 30 minutes following the first game to crown a Midwest Regional Champion and a representative for the NCAA Division II College World Series.
