Hawks Drop Pair at Maryville on Sunday

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University softball team lost a pair of games on Sunday (April 3) afternoon as Maryville claimed 9-2 and 6-1 victories in St. Charles, Mo. in GLVC action. The games were played at Lindenwood University.

The Hawks (12-18, 7-11 GLVC) were not able to get their bats going against the Saints (26-6, 14-4 GLVC), who led wire-to-wire in both games.

In Game 1, the Saints scored three runs in the first inning before the Hawks battled back for two in the second. Senior Rachel Scrum (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville/UT-Martin) doubled with one out and went to third on a single by sophomore Abby Burton (Springfield, Ill./Glenwood).

Freshman Jackie Farbak (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) followed with a sacrifice fly and sophomore Karli McLaughlin (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) delivered an RBI single.

The Saints' lineup did not let up, though, as they scored in all but one inning in Game 1, recording 11 hits.

Junior Tiffany Harbison (Waterloo, Ill.) took the loss (3-5), allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits in six innings. Nikki Taylor earned the win for the Saints, tossing four no-hit innings.

Scrum reached base three times, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.

Freshman Kasey Bradley (Waterloo, Ill.) kept Maryville off the board in the first two innings of Game 2, but the Saints picked up a run in the third and three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

The Hawks scored their lone run in the nightcap in the sixth as junior Lindsey Greene (Ottawa, Ill.) and Scrum ripped back-to-back doubles.

Scrum went 2-for-3 in the game to finish with four hits on the day.

Bradley (2-4) took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits in six innings. Taylor (11-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on eight hits. She struck out four.

The Hawks return to the field next Saturday (April 9) to take on William Jewell at noon.
