Men's Tennis Clinches Return to GLVC Championship Tournament

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Quincy University men's tennis team clinched a return to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament with a 7-2 win at William Jewell College on Saturday, Apr. 16. The QU women fall 5-4 at WJC.

The QU men (6-10, 2-3 GLVC) will go to back-to-back GLVC Championship Tournaments for the first time since they made three trips in a row from 2002 to 2004.

The Hawks claimed all three doubles matches to take a commanding lead early. Patrick Kuhle and Ryan McMillan won number one doubles 8-3. Danyil Vayser and Chris Bueler claimed number three doubles by the same score. Michael Lesko and Wyatt Pauley secured an 8-5 win at number two doubles.

Patrick Kuhle lost the first set of number one singles 6-0. Kuhle countered with a 6-4 win in set two. Kuhle completed a strong comeback with a 6-3 win in set three.

Michael Lesko won number two singles 6-1, 6-0 to claim the match for the Hawks. Danyil Vayser earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at number three singles. Ryan McMillan won a pair of 6-2 sets to take the fifth singles match.

The WJC men (5-17, 1-3 GLVC) claimed the number four singles 6-3, 6-2 and the number six singles by default.

The QU women (10-9, 1-5 GLVC) were led by the duo of Amy Kuhle and Sydney Lynch. The pair won the number two doubles match 8-5. Kuhle fell in the first set of number one singles 6-4. Kuhle bounced back in tremendous fashion winning set two 6-3 and set three 6-1. Sydney Lynch won the sixth singles match 6-3, 6-4.

The Cardinals (11-9, 2-2 GLVC) won the number one and number three doubles matches. WJC also took the third, fourth, and fifth singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory.

Anna Morrissey and Lisanne Visseren went to a three set thriller in the fourth singles match. Visseren won set one 6-4. Morrissey turned the tide in set two with a 6-0 win. Visseren edged Morrissey in the final set 6-4.

Elizabeth Kuenzi won the second singles match for the Hawks. Kuenzi claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The women's tennis team will travel to Macomb, Ill. to play Western Illinois University on Tuesday, Apr. 19. The QU men will travel to the University of Illinois Springfield on Apr. 25.
