Quincy Splits Pair, Bradley Tosses Five-Hit Shutout

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University softball team split a pair of games at the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. on Saturday (March 5), defeating St. Rose, 3-0, before falling to Charleston, 6-5, in eight innings.

Freshman Kasey Bradley (Waterloo, Ill.) tossed a five-hit, complete game shutout over the Golden Knights. She struck out six and walked none.

A double steal in the first inning gave the Lady Hawks (4-4) their first run of the game as junior Lindsey Greene (Ottawa, Ill.) swiped second and freshman Jackie Farbak (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) rushed home on a delayed dash.

Junior Kaylee Jones (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine CC) generated a run with her speed, reaching on an error before stealing second and third and racing home on a throwing error by the catcher.

Sophomore Abby Burton (Springfield, Ill./Glenwood) ripped a solo home run in the fifth to push Quincy's lead to 3-0.

Bradley did not need much run support. She struck out Katie Shevlin to end the game with two runners on base.

Greene led the QU offense with a pair of hits.

Jones had an RBI single in the third inning of Quincy's second game on Saturday. Greene came up three batters later and poked a two-run single to push QU's lead to 3-0.

Charleston tied the game in the fifth before Quincy regained the lead in the fifth on Jones' sac fly. UC matched it in the seventh to send it to extras.

With the international tie-break in place, the Eagles scored twice in the top of the eighth. QU could only scratch out one run on Greene's RBI single.

Freshman Kristen Skala (Westmont, Ill.) took the loss, pitching the final three innings of the game.

Quincy takes on Upper Iowa and Walsh on Sunday (March 6) at the Spring Games.
