QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis used a 24-5 run over the final eight minutes of the first half to take command and eventually defeat the Quincy University men's basketball team, 98-66, at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis Thursday (Feb. 4) night.

The Hawks (14-7, 8-4 GLVC) were in a tight battle with the Greyhounds (16-4, 10-2 GLVC) in the game's first 12 minutes, which featured 10 lead changes and three tie scores.

Quincy had an early 6-0 run, keyed by four points from junior forward Evan McGaughey (Carthage, Ill./Illini West), to give the visiting team an 18-12 lead.

Indianapolis, which was coming off a 101-65 defeat at Bellarmine last Saturday, bounced back with a 7-0 run. Junior guard Herm Senor II (Springfield, Ill./Southeast) hit a 3-pointer that handed the Hawks a 23-21 lead with 9:21 left in the first half.

But after junior forward Joseph Tagarelli (Bayside, Wis./Waunakee/Kirkwood CC) hit a free throw with 8:20 remaining in the half, the Hawks went cold from the field, hitting just two more field goals before halftime. The Greyhounds took a 47-29 lead into the break.

The Hawks never got back in the game as UIndy shot 73 percent (19-for-26) in the second half to put the game away.

Tagarelli led the Hawks with a double-double, scoring 14 points to go with 11 rebounds. Senor managed 13 points and five assists while McGaughey neared a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

The Hawks shot just 35.8 percent (24-for-67) as a team and went cold from long distance, going 7-for-29 (24.1 percent) from the 3-point line. The Hawks entered the game leading the GLVC in threes made per game.

Jordan Loyd paced the 'Hounds with 23 points. Lucas Barker contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on Saturday (Feb. 6) when they take on Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
