Big Play from Webster & Mennemeyer Lifts #23 Lady Hawks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The No. 23 Quincy University women's basketball team overcame a first half deficit at Rockhurst University with a big third quarter leading to a 72-69 win. Anika Webster provided a career-high effort with 25 points, while Erin Mennemeyer grabbed 11 rebounds and finished with 15 points for her second double-double of the season. QU limited RU's Mary Dineen to nine points in the second half. The Lady Hawks shot 60% from the field and knocked down 10-of-10 from the line in the second half.

The Lady Hawks (21-4, 12-4 GLVC) struggled with turnovers in the first half as QU turned the ball over 10 times.

Rockhurst (13-11, 6-10 GLVC) capitalized with 10 points off of those turnovers in the first half. Mary Dineen hit a jumper to end the first half to give RU a 36-30 lead.

QU answered quickly to start the second half with an 8-2 run supplied by Erin Mennemeyer and Kara Gerbus to tie the game less than three minutes into the half.

The Lady Hawks' bench provided quality minutes in the third quarter with Selina Barnes guiding the offense. Barnes finished with six points and three assists. Cierra Young came off the bench and immediately made an impact knocking down a triple with two minutes to play in the third to give QU a six point lead. The Lady Hawks outscored RU 21-12 in the third period.

Rockhurst went on a run to start the half and jumped out to a seven point lead.

Carly Beebe answered with a three on the next possession. Erin Mennemeyer and Anika Webster scored the next eight points of the game to regain the lead for QU.

Rockhurst tied the game for the 11th time with under three minutes to play. RU eventually took the lead on a Mary Dineen three.

Quincy took a timeout with one and a half minutes to play. Out of the timeout, Webster drove the lane from the baseline and finished the layup to take the lead.

Rockhurst got the ball trailing 70-69 with 22 seconds to play. Marisa Lowe missed a contested layup and Erin Mennemeyer came away with the rebound with three seconds left. Maggie Cunningham hit two free throws and Carly Beebe stole the inbound pass to seal the 72-69 win for QU.

Anika Webster led the way for the Lady Hawks with 25 points. Webster added seven rebounds. Erin Mennemeyer recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Selina Barnes and Maggie Cunningham tied for a team-high three assists. Kara Gerbus scored eight points for QU.

The Lady Hawks were 17-of-19 from the line. QU shot 50% from the field. 

Rockhurst was led by Mary Dineen with 22 points. Lauren Meyers scored 18 points and Jillian Myers scored 15 points and dished out seven assists.

The Lady Hawks travel to Liberty, Mo. Saturday, Feb. 20 to face William Jewell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
