QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 20 Quincy University women's basketball team dropped their first home game since Feb. 14, 2015, to No. 7 Lewis University, 68-62, on Thursday, Feb. 11. The Lady Hawks (19-4, 10-4 GLVC) struggled to get the offense rolling in the first five minutes of play. The Flyers (23-1, 14-0 GLVC) held a slim 11-7 lead at the first media timeout.

Anika Webster provided a spark off the bench for the Lady Hawks and she proved to be crucial to keeping QU close in the first half. Webster racked up 12 points on 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line in 12 minutes of play for the first half.

Webster gave the Lady Hawks the lead with eight and a half minutes to play in the second quarter after a three-pointer from the right elbow assisted by Maggie Cunningham. QU took their last lead at the six minute and 22 second mark when Carly Beebe finished a layup.

Lewis went on an eight point run to provide a seven point lead. Lewis would take a 34-27 lead into halftime.

Lewis spread their lead to 12 points with seven minutes and 50 seconds to play in the game.

Threes by Maggie Cunningham and Carly Beebe, as well as Anika Webster making plays inside, and a full court press that forced Lewis into three turnovers, led Quincy to within four points at 59-55. It was a 12-4 run that pulled the Lady Hawks within two possessions.

The Flyers hit seven free throws down the stretch to keep the Lady Hawks at a far enough distance to earn a 68-62 win.
