Hawks Lead At Halftime, But Fall To Drury in Non-GLVC Play

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team held a 32-27 halftime lead, but host Drury took control in the third quarter to pull away for an 80-52 win in nonconference action in Springfield, Mo. on Monday (Dec. 19) morning.

The Hawks (2-10), who have struggled offensively this season, shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the field in the first half to take the five-point advantage against the team that eliminated them from the NCAA Tournament last season.

They took their first lead of the game in the final seconds of the first quarter when senior guard Selina Barnes (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sierra/Southeastern CC) split a pair of free throws.

Quincy used a five-point spurt in the second quarter to take a 25-20 lead after a 3-pointer by junior forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) with 3:31 to play in the first half.

The Hawks twice led by seven points in the first half after a couple threes by senior guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East/Murray State), the last coming with 1:22 remaining.

The tide turned against the Hawks in the third quarter as the Panthers (10-2) outscored the visitors, 32-5, to take a 59-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. Drury shot 61 percent (19-for-31) from the field in the second half and limited Quincy to just 20 points.

Webster led the Hawks with 11 of her team-leading 17 points in the first half. She shot 6-for-11 from the field. Barnes shot 4-for-5 and chipped in 11 points as the other Quincy player in double figures. Edom added nine points.

Hailey Diestelkamp led the Panthers with 23 points and eight rebounds on 11-for-13 shooting. Drury won the battle on the glass, 29-27.

The Hawks will now head home for Christmas break, returning to competition on New Year's Eve at 1 p.m. against Missouri Valley at Pepsi Arena.
