Truman Pulls Away In Second Half Against Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team was tied with Truman State at halftime, but the Bulldogs shot 57 percent in the second half to knock off the Hawks, 62-42, on Saturday (Dec. 10) afternoon at Pepsi Arena.
 
The teams fought through a defensive battle in the first half as the score was deadlocked, 20-20, going into halftime. Neither team shot better than 30 percent in the first 20 minutes.
 
The Hawks (2-8, 0-3 GLVC) trailed by nine, 18-9, with 7:42 left in the second quarter, but freshman center Alexa Low (Beavercreek, Ohio) knocked down four jumpers during a 9-0 run that spanned six minutes to tie the game at 18-18.
 
Senior forward Cha Cha Williams (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook/Seton Hill) scored the first two baskets of the second half to take a 24-20 lead, but the Hawks were held without a field goal over the last 8:45 of the third quarter as the Bulldogs (5-5, 1-2 GLVC) pulled away with a 42-27 lead through three quarters.
 
Low led the Hawks with a career-high 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting to go with four rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Senior guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East/Murray State) added 11 points and five steals. Williams chipped in six points and a game-high nine rebounds.
 
Cassidy Clark led the Bulldogs with 18 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs edged Quincy on the glass, 39-38.
 
The Hawks will return to the court on Friday (Dec. 16) at 5:15 p.m. when they play host to Culver-Stockton in their final game before Christmas break.
